The AIR STOP positive air-intake shut-off valve is a safety device used to prevent catastrophic diesel engine over-speed resulting from an inhaled combustible gas from the surrounding atmosphere, or to prevent uncontrolled engine runaway caused by mechanical failure. Installed in the engine air-intake line, the valve cuts off the intake airflow when actuated, starving the engine of air.
The AIR STOP is a guillotine design of shut-off valve that is manufactured to the design demands of engine manufacturers. Standard valves can be rated up to 450 degrees F (232°C), so they can be safely mounted in close proximity to or in the air-line after the turbocharger. The modular design enables easy field conversion from one actuation mode to another, and the removable top cover enables replacement/inspection of all internal parts without removing the valve from the engine air-line.
Note that Envacon can also offer valve designs for extreme heat and vibration applications, and also for higher air-line pressure applications.
Modified shut-off valves will be tailored to the specific application requirements, incorporating switches (such as proximity switches), customized elbows, or, in certain instances, modifications to the engine intake manifold. Envacon will thoroughly assess the engine layout and application to determine the optimal approach for accommodating a positive air-intake shut-off valve.
AIR STOP 'through-bore' sizes range up to 13" (330mm) diameter.
Depending on the valve size and application, standard actuation options include manual, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic. Contact Envacon to match specific design specifications and options for your application requirements.
Gate position indicator switches are available for multiple valve applications.
